You know you're a New Yorker when...

DISCLAIMER: The "You know you're a New Yorker when..." series of my blog is going to be multiple parts. I'm stating that now, as the life experiences in this city changed in, well, a New York minute...which is actually 7 seconds. So...here we go!

In the first 3 weeks of living in this wonderfully crazy city, I have determined you know you're a New Yorker when...

  • It makes your morning when the train is waiting as you come down the stairs at your station.
  • It ruins your night if you have to wait more than 3 minutes for the train at your station.
  • Having a rooftop to sit on is the ultimate "escape from it all" and gives you a slight superiority complex.
  • A squirrel crawls into your purse when you're sitting at the park because squirrels and pigeons are not afraid of anything in this city...and I mean, an-nee-thin-guh.
  • You want to punch anyone with a stroller in Midtown...specifically Times Square.
  • You don't heart "I <3 NY" shirts.
  • Riding an escalator takes too long - walk up and down those mothers.
  • The corner deli staff knows your name and order by heart.
  • It feels weird not to hear an emergency siren of some sort on the hour.
  • Having a child is out of the question until you can afford a nanny.
  • You're willing to spend your entire day, including night, in the dark so you can afford air conditioning (I guess this counts for anywhere, but I'm keeping it!)

Stay tuned for future installments of "You know you're a New Yorker when..."
