My Life in the City

I've been living in New York for six weeks now and have only written one blog...FAIL! I guess it's about time to update you all a bit on what I've been doing here.

The immediate thing I need to cover in this post is that I'm not doing what many of you know I moved here to do. Things changed once I got here, and that chapter of my life is closed for now. That's all I'll say online. If you need to know more, I'll talk to you about it in person.

However, as it often does in life, when one door closes, another door opens. And this door opened my life up to an amazing opportunity!

I am now working for an extraordinary businesswoman who impresses me on a daily basis. She built her own company with the help of a few friends out of her living room over the past several years, and she is now ready to expand nationally. The company itself is a spectacular concept and is huge here in the city. Everyone (literally everyone) knows this woman and what she does. It's obvious within seconds of meeting her how she's built such an established company in such a short period of time. You know those rare breeds you meet and love within 5 seconds of the first handshake? Yeah, that's totally her. She's not afraid to go out there, talk to people and make things happen. It's truly incredible.

My boss is also extremely creative and has endless amounts of ideas with potential to be major, but she needs more (wo)manpower to make them happen. She brought me on to help turn those ideas into realities. She gives me an incredible amount of freedom to help shape the growth of her company, and I learn crazy amounts about the media/entertainment business and being a mom-trepeneur every day on the job. I am also extremely blessed to be able to use every bit of my past work experience in this job. It's a lot of work helping build her empire, but I am loving every minute! There is so much more to tell but too much for a blog. If you want to know more, we can discuss over lunch sometime. Call me :)

Besides working, this foodie uses any free minute she has to taste every piece of culinary goodness this amazing city has to offer. I've been compiling a list of the best foods I've tried here. Stay tuned for that blog at the end of the summer.

Even after 6 weeks, I still have to pinch myself when I walk out my door and onto the streets of New York City. I find myself still thinking, " I actually live here. Wow!" I always knew the city would be a part of my life, but I never knew when that day would come. I miss my old life in Indiana and the people there incredibly — literally every day — but I am very blessed to be where I am. As many of my friends continue to tell me, when else in your life would you be able to pick up and move with no strings attached? Your 20s are the time to be selfish and go after what you want (if you can). That's a hard concept to swallow, but I'm doing it now and embracing my decision to the fullest.

I will keep you updated on all my adventures more frequently in the future — promise! I am finally settling in to my new life, so my schedule allows for more blogging time. Talk soon!

Xoxo,

Alyson
