Some recent events in my life have smacked me in the face with personal reflection time. I think at this stage of life — in my first job, in my first home, in my first adult life — it's the appropriate time to look inward and realize some things about who I am. It's like chicken soup...good for the soul :) I really recommend it!
So anyways, the happenings of the past month have helped me realize the people I know will be in my life forever. No matter the distance between us or the time that passes between reunions, there are certain people in our lives that will be there no matter what when you need them. There are no strings attached. There are no expectations. There are no conditions. There are just your people.
Your people care about you unconditionally. They are a shoulder to cry on; a hand to lend when you need an extra; an ear to listen to the good and bad stories; a smile to share when you laugh so hard you can't breathe. You can go ages without seeing these people, and when you reunite, it's like no time has passed at all. They want you to reach your full potential and are willing to help you get there, no matter how big or small the helping is. You hold a bond with them that can't be broken no matter what life throws your way. They love you for you and would never want you to be anyone but yourself.
While these people do all of the above for you, you equally do all of the above for them. They literally are your people. Everyone should have one person like this in their life. I am lucky to have several, and this past month has helped me realize who these people are.
I hope you can all take time to realize who these people are in your life, and don't hesitate to tell them so. If you have this strong of bond with a person, I'm sure they know without saying (I know my people reading this know who they are, even if I haven't had the chance to tell you so yet :)!).
If you're having trouble recognizing who these people are, just wait. In times of extreme celebration or devastation, they will be the ones who are there that you see and feel a total sense of relief and comfort. They are the ones there for you when you need them the most. Those are your people.
And since I always end with a song that summarizes what I'm trying to say in my blog post, here you go:
If you feel comfortable, please comment on how you know who your people are. I'm interested to know how others recognize them in their lives and compare yours to my process. Thanks for reading :)

I think you know if someone is one of your *people* if you know that being around them means not holding anything back. They know if you're sad or you're happy without you needing to say a word. They know you better than you know yourself.
