I'm talking about people who genuinely love their job. They live it, breathe it, eat it up for all its worth. And they enjoy doing so. They put the job before themselves. They truly believe in what they are working for. These kinds of people are those I work with at Lincoln Center Institute.
I was going to say this is because it's a non-profit, but I don't want to generalize this kind of passion to that. I mean, you could say because LCI is a non-profit, they take less pay and work more hours than for-profits and are juggling 100 plates at a time instead of 50. But I've worked with other non-profits before, and the staff at LCI takes career passion to an extraordinary level.
You see, today I sat in on a meeting about LCI's upcoming book, entitled Imagination First. It prints in October and will be a huge success. I don't want to give anything away, so I'll let the B&N description share the story. But, trust me, if the content of the book isn't amazing enough in itself, the passion of the people behind it will knock your socks off. Sitting in that meeting and talking about the upcoming marketing, promotion and overall future of the book, I realized that these incredible individuals I work beside every day are where they are because they want to contribute to the arts in education. They believe the imagination is an ability that is nurtured and fostered to its full potential. Creativity is at the forefront of their work and how they hope to teach others to learn in LCI's partner schools and educators across the country who want to learn on their own.
It's not about the money. It's not about the time. It's about the cause. You don't find that much anymore...it's a feeling like no other to be around such people. I only hope I can find a place to work that I care about so deeply because I will always feel satisfied with how my time, money and energy are spent there. I can't imagine anything more rewarding...
XO
